  • TOWING RECEIVER, TWO RECOVERY POINTS, AND HI-LIFT HOLES BUILT IN.

 

WHAT WE LIKE: 

  • TRIED AND TESTED: 4X4 LABS HAS BEEN BUILDING THIS BUMPER FOR OVER A DECADE AND HAS IT DOWN TO A SCIENCE. THEY HAVE ENGINEERED THE BUMPER TO DELIVER BOTH FUNCTION AND DURABILITY.

  • EASY TO FOLLOW ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS: 4X4 LABS BUMPERS HAVE BECOME SO POPULAR THAT THERE IS A PRETTY LONG WAITING LIST TO GET A FULLY BUILT ONE. WE LIKE TO BUILD THINGS OURSELVES (AND SAVE MONEY), SO WE WENT WITH THE KIT OPTION. 4X4 LABS HAS A LINK ON THEIR WEBSITE TO THE INSTRUCTIONS SO YOU CAN CHECK THEM OUT AND SEE IF THE PROJECT IS WITHIN YOUR SKILL LEVEL BEFORE PURCHASING THE KIT. 

  • HIGH CLEARANCE: COMPARED TO A STOCK BUMPER (AND MOST AFTERMARKET BUMPERS), THE DEPARTURE ANGLE IS INCREASED ON THE 4X4 LABS BUMPER. THIS GIVES ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE IN THE BACK WHICH IS HELPFUL WHEN DROPPING OFF STEEP LEDGES OR ROCKS (SOMETHING WE FIND OURSELVES DOING MORE THAN OUR SPINES WOULD LIKE.) 

  • CUSTOMIZABLE: 4X4 LABS' DESIGN IS MODULAR AND CUSTOMIZABLE, SO WHETHER YOU GO WITH THE BUILT BUMPER OR THE KIT OPTION, THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WAYS TO CUSTOMIZE IT TO MAKE IT BEST SUITED FOR YOU. IHATEMUD EVEN HAS A THREAD SHOWING LOTS OF DIFFERENT WAYS PEOPLE HAVE CUSTOMIZED THEIR 4X4 LABS BUMPERS. WE BUILT OUR OWN DUAL SWING OUTS FOR OUR BUMPER FROM SCRATCH (TWICE, ACTUALLY) SO THAT WE HAVE EXACTLY WHAT WE WANT.

  • INTEGRATED TOWING RECEIVER:  THE TOWING CROSS MEMBER IS BUILT INTO THE BUMPER USING SQUARE TUBING AND THE HIGH CLEARANCE TOW RECEIVER TUBES ARE RECESSED INTO THE MAIN SHELL OF THE BUMPER. THIS DESIGN MAKES THE TOWING CAPABILITIES STRONGER THAN WITH STOCK TOWING ACCESSORIES. 

 

WHAT WE DON'T: ​NOTHING. QUOTING MATTHEW, "THIS IS "A GREAT ASS BUMPER". 

RECOMMENDATION: BUILDING THE 4X4 LABS REAR BUMPER KIT AND ADDING CUSTOM SWING OUTS WAS ONE OF THE BEST MODIFICATIONS WE'VE MADE TO THE RIG IN TERMS OF IMPROVING FUNCTIONALITY. IN ADDITION TO THE FUNCTIONALITY, WE LOVE THE LOOK OF THE BUMPER. THAT SHIT IS CLEAN- THE WAY IT FOLLOWS THE LINES AND CURVES OF OUR RIG.

IF YOU DECIDE TO GO THE KIT ROUTE, THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER PROJECT. SOME LEVEL OF FABRICATION EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. IF YOU AREN'T COMFORTABLE BUILDING THE BUMPER YOURSELF, WE THINK GETTING A BUILT BUMPER FROM 4X4 LABS IS WORTH THE WAIT.
